Louis Vuitton adds a new edition to its Travel Book series devoted to Los Angeles by Javier Mariscal.

Next stop Los Angeles, through the eyes of Javier Mariscal. The Louis Vuitton Travel Book series invites renowned artists and promising young talents to tell stories of places they have visited, depicting each place’s varied architecture and special light, and recording the passing days and the lives of its people. For the new edition on Los Angeles, the Spanish artist Javier Mariscal brings his edgy and unbridled style to the sprawling Californian city.

A graphic designer, illustrator, filmmaker, painter, sculptor and ceramist, Javier Mariscal loves to challenge everything he encounters: his motto is "hay que romper con todo" (you have to break with everything). As a dyslexic child, he was obsessed with drawing from a very early age and fascinated by letters and typography, a passion that would have a substantial influence on his work.

The Espace Louis Vuitton Venezia opens the exhibit 'Elsewhen' by Philippe Parreno during the 58th edition of La Biennale di Venezia.

The Fondation Louis Vuitton is pleased to announce the opening of its new exhibition, Elsewhen, displaying a whole new installation by French artist Philippe Parreno at the Espace Louis Vuitton Venezia. As part of the Collateral Events of the 58th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, this presentation has been produced in the framework of the Fondation Louis Vuitton “Hors-les-murs” program. This program, inaugurated in 2014, showcases previously unseen holdings of the Fondation's collection in the multiple Espaces Louis Vuitton around the world (Tokyo, Munich, Beijing and Venice), thus realizing the Fondation’s commitment to mount international projects and make them accessible to a broader public.

For Parreno's installation, the walls of the Espace Louis Vuitton Venezia are covered with a phosphorescent yellow wallpaper patterned with black irises. A grand luminous marquee, a recreation and reinvention of those that once stood on top of cinema entrances, floats above a large vertical mechanical mirrored shutter. An experimental hybrid digital program controls these interdependent elements, causing light to appear or disappear at irregular intervals by rotating the louvers and forcing pulses of air or synthetically generated sounds, all echoing microorganisms’ reactions integrated within the program. As the blinds move, the mirror reflects silhouettes of viewers and the structure of the marquee. When the light turns out, all shapes become ghostlike, accentuated by the phosphorescent walls mutating to dark green and black. Far from their initial utilitarian nature, the elements of the installation take on a playfully equivocal identity, bringing the pulse of life into the space to build a distinctive interaction between the viewer and the context. In 'Elsewhen', Parreno creates an experience where memories of the past come together in a disruptive temporality. The familiar markers of perception are annihilated in favor of a stimulating process of inventing new ways of understanding, all while defying rational categories and the established order.

Currently at the Espace Louis Vuitton München: Amar Kanwar - Louis Vuitton Art & Travel NEWS
The Espace Louis Vuitton München is pleased to present the exhibit 'Exile' from Indian artist and filmmaker Amar Kanwar, on display from April 24th to September 15th, 2019.

The Espace Louis Vuitton München, within the framework of the Fondation Louis Vuitton "Hors-les-murs" program, invites you to experience two films by Amar Kanwar, Henningsvaer (2006) and A Love Story (2010), alongside a recent installation selected by the artist himself, Letter 5 (2017). Amar Kanwar is an artist and filmmaker who lives and works in New Delhi. His oeuvre, deeply marked by the history of his country, shows multiple influences ranging from 15th and 16th-century Indian poetry to the cinema of Russian director Andrei Tarkovski. Kanwar's works encourage reflection and examine nationalism, politics, violence, and social performance through video and sound installations. Kanwar invites the viewer on a potent personal experience and aspires to incite new generations of artists to rethink the social consequences of their work.

Like many of his films, Henningsvaer (2006) is a complex contemporary narrative that connects intimate personal spheres of existence to larger social-political processes – in this case a cinematic interpretation of separation and exile. Mixing historical footage, personal testimony and lyrical cinematography, Kanwar creates a multi-layered film installation connecting intimate personal histories with the wider politics of power and justice. A Love Story (2010), a much shorter film, is a short poetic documentary set on the fringe of an expanding Indian city, addressing conditions of conflict through the combination of poetic sensibility and political consciousness.

Louis Vuitton's Objets Nomades collection is exclusively presented at Palazzo Serbelloni in Milan during Fuorisalone 2019.

Since its launch in 2012, the Louis Vuitton Objets Nomades has grown into a collection forty-five limited-edition travel-inspired objects imagined by some of the world's most renowned designers: Barber&Osgerby, Campana Brothers, André Fu, Damien Langlois-Meurinne, Nendo, Gwenaël Nicolas, Raw Edges, Patricia Urquiola, Marcel Wanders, India Mahdavi, Tokujin Yoshioka, and, most recently, Atelier Biagetti and Zanellato/Bortotto. Louis Vuitton has unveiled the latest additions to the collection at the Palazzo Serbelloni in Milan during Fuorisalone 2019.

Among the new pieces is Anemona by Milan-based Atelier Biagetti, which is a remarkable, glass-topped dining table with undulating base covered in soft beige leather. The italian duo Zanellato/Bortotto makes its debut with Mandala, a tripartite screen of intricately woven leather inspired by nomadic craftmanship. A new selection of inventive, poetic work from established Objets Nomades designers includes the Campana Brothers' Bulbo, a cosy seat that transports the sitter in a cocoon-like tropical flower of leather and soft fabric. The duo Raw Edges’ Dolls are a set of joyously playful, endlessly customizable chairs that, like traditional Louis Vuitton trunks, can be hand-painted with unique designs. Marcel Wanders enriches the collection with four new objects: the beguiling pair of Diamond Sofa and Armchair with their bases of intertwined ash and rich leather upholstery; Venezia, a lamp inspired by traditional Venetian lanterns; and Diamond Vase, made of red, handblown Murano glass. India Mahdavi brings her lacquered Talisman tray, with its “benevolent eye” design, while Tokujin Yoshioka presents the Monogram pattern-inspired Blossom Vase, made of heavy, handcrafted Murano glass.
