From opposite ends of the 20th century, from Vienna to New York, the lives and works of Egon Schiele and Jean-Michel Basquiat are fascinating for their fleetingness and their intensity.

    EGON SCHIELE
Egon Schiele’s work is indissociable from the Viennese spirit of the early 20th century. In just a few years, his drawing emerged as one of the peaks of expressionism.
The exhibition brings together some 100 works: drawings, gouaches, and paintings. Among them, « Self-Portrait with a Chinese Lantern Plant » (1912), on loan from the Leopold Museum (Vienna), “Pregnant Woman and Death” (1911), from the Národní gallery (Poland), “Portrait of the Artist’s Wife Seated, Holding Her Right Leg” (1917) from the Morgan Library & Museum (New York), “Standing Nude with Blue Sheet” (1914) from the Germanisches Nationalmuseum, Nuremberg, “Seated Male Nude” (1910) from the Neue Galerie New York, and “Self-Portrait” (1912) from the National Gallery of Art, Washington.

    BASQUIAT
The work of Jean-Michel Basquiat, one of the most significant painters of the 20th century, is spread over four levels of Frank Gehry’s building.
The exhibition covers the painter’s whole career, from 1980 to 1988, focusing on 120 defining works. With the Heads from 1981-1982, gathered for the first time here, and the presentation of several collaborations between Basquiat and Warhol, the exhibition includes works previously unseen in Europe, essential works such as "Obnoxious Liberals" (1982), "In Italian" (1983), and "Riding with Death" (1988), as well as paintings which have rarely been seen since their first presentations during the artist’s lifetime, such as "Offensive Orange" (1982), "Untitled (Boxer)" (1982), and "Untitled (Yellow Tar and Feathers)" (1982).

Louis Vuitton celebra Roma con la mostra "Rome by Miles Hyman".

Louis Vuitton pays tribute to Rome with an exhibition recounting, through the fascinating illustrations of artist Miles Hyman created for the Louis Vuitton Travel Book collection, the monuments, the atmosphere and the daily life of the Eternal City.

From October 5th to November 11th, the Istituto Centrale per la Grafica will host over 100 original drawings by the American artist, commissioned by Louis Vuitton, and some especially made for the exhibition in Rome.

Hyman spent his days in the city with eyes turned towards the Roman sky, focused on an architectural detail, on a face, a door in Trastevere or on the dome of a church in Piazza Navona, with the aim of depicting Rome for the Louis Vuitton Travel Book: Rome by Miles Hyman. The result is an invitation towards the real and virtual journey, enriched by intellectual stimulations and intense moments, which gives the readers an unprecedented image of the city.

  • REOPENING OF LA GALERIE ASNIÈRES

Every weekend from September 21st to October 27th, la Galerie will reopen its doors to the public presenting an exhibition: Time Capsule.

The Asnières atelier is a pivotal location. Barely five years after founding Louis Vuitton, Louis himself began to outgrow his Parisian headquarters. In 1859, he relocated the new workshop to Asnières, a village a few kilometers northwest of Paris.

This new atelier was built in the ethereal Eiffel style, combining glass and steel. The exceptional savoir-faire of the Asnières artisans is such that, even today, key pieces are created here: rigid trunks, designs in rare or exotic leathers, special orders.

From within its “Galérie” in Asnières, Louis Vuitton presents Time Capsule, a journey through the history of the House that revisits its landmark innovations in technology and design. Travelling from the House’s beginnings in 1854 to the present day, the story is told using rare and celebrated objects selected from the Louis Vuitton archive.

The exhibition follows a visual timeline of landmark moments in the Louis Vuitton story, demonstrating the ways in which Louis Vuitton has anticipated the needs and desires of a changing world over 160 years generated by technological progress, with imaginative and ingenious new creations.

In Time Capsule, heirloom designs live alongside some of the House’s most contemporary pieces, highlighting the ongoing commitment to constant innovation.

Visit Asnières to discover the intimate aspects of Louis Vuitton’s history, its ties with the ateliers, and admire in detail the presence of the Louis Vuitton universe in every creation.
