Louis Vuitton unveils new models of the Maison's original timepiece: the timeless Tambour watch.
Back in 2001, Louis Vuitton made its watchmaking debut with the Tambour, an unprecedented timepiece that integrates all of the Maison's values into its design - from the Louis Vuitton letters engraved on its case to the yellow second hand like the waxed thread used in the Maison's classic bags. Beyond multiple references, the Tambour model has come to symbolize Louis Vuitton's core identity, it represents a signature that combines a timeless look with renewed technical performance.
Today, this iconic model has been revisited in a collection of four new timepieces: the Tambour Monogram, available in three sizes, and the Tambour Damier Graphite. These models build on the historic case with new dials that faithfully reproduce the Monogram and Damier Graphite canvases thanks to the skilled craftsmanship of the dial experts at La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton in Geneva. Driven by a quartz movement, the new Tambours are fitted with interchangeable straps – featuring Louis Vuitton’s innovative patented system that allows wearers to easily swap out the straps to suit the occasion and invent their own style.Tambour Timepieces Monogram Damier
Every weekend from September 21st to October 27th, la Galerie will reopen its doors to the public presenting an exhibition: Time Capsule.
The Asnières atelier is a pivotal location. Barely five years after founding Louis Vuitton, Louis himself began to outgrow his Parisian headquarters. In 1859, he relocated the new workshop to Asnières, a village a few kilometers northwest of Paris.
This new atelier was built in the ethereal Eiffel style, combining glass and steel. The exceptional savoir-faire of the Asnières artisans is such that, even today, key pieces are created here: rigid trunks, designs in rare or exotic leathers, special orders.
From within its “Galérie” in Asnières, Louis Vuitton presents Time Capsule, a journey through the history of the House that revisits its landmark innovations in technology and design. Travelling from the House’s beginnings in 1854 to the present day, the story is told using rare and celebrated objects selected from the Louis Vuitton archive.
The exhibition follows a visual timeline of landmark moments in the Louis Vuitton story, demonstrating the ways in which Louis Vuitton has anticipated the needs and desires of a changing world over 160 years generated by technological progress, with imaginative and ingenious new creations.
In Time Capsule, heirloom designs live alongside some of the House’s most contemporary pieces, highlighting the ongoing commitment to constant innovation.
