  • “ABOUT TIME” EXHIBITION AT THE COSTUME INSTITUTE

About Time Exhibition at the Costume Institute - Louis Vuitton Art & Travel NEWS
Announcing the upcoming Metropolitan Museum of Art's exhibition “About Time: Fashion and Duration,” made possible by Louis Vuitton.

The exhibit will trace more than a century and a half of fashion, from 1870 to the present, along a disruptive timeline, as part of the Museum’s 150th-anniversary celebration. Employing philosopher Henri Bergson’s concept of la durée—time that flows, accumulates, and is indivisible—the exhibition will explore how clothes generate temporal associations that conflate the past, present, and future. The exhibition is made possible by Louis Vuitton, with additional support provided by Condé Nast.

In celebration of the opening, The Costume Institute Benefit, also known as The Met Gala, will take place on Monday, May 4, 2020.  Louis Vuitton’s Artistic Director Nicolas Ghesquière will co-chair the event along with Emma Stone, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Meryl Streep, and Anna Wintour.

  • TRIBUTE TO PATRICK-LOUIS VUITTON

It is with profound emotion and sadness that we have learned of the passing of Patrick-Louis Vuitton.

We wish to share with you a message from Michael Burke: “This morning, we all share the same grief. Patrick-Louis was an emblematic figure of the Vuitton family and of our House. My thoughts are with his friends and family, in particular his sons Pierre-Louis and Benoît-Louis, who work beside us, as well as his grandchildren. On behalf of all the teams, we send them our support."

Patrick-Louis followed the family tradition by joining the House in 1973 as carpenter craftsman. After a lifetime of work dedicated to excellence and creativity, he acquired a perfect expertise of our savoir-faire, invented and produced hundreds of extraordinary trunks that carry on our legacy of the Art of Travel. Patrick-Louis possessed an avant-garde and modern spirit, along with a “strong-tempered personality from the Jura” a reference he often enjoyed using to describe himself. He always knew how to nourish the House’s heritage and to give vision for the future. “Savoir-faire can only exist if it is transmitted…” was one of his favorite expressions. Patrick-Louis will be heavily missed, especially at Asnières, in the Special Orders workshop, where the emotions of the teams who worked side-by-side with him are deeply felt.
