    • Store Opening at Rome's Fiumicino Airport - Louis Vuitton Heritage NEWS
On February 18th, 2020, Louis Vuitton opened a store inside Terminal T3 at Rome's Leonardo da Vinci International Airport, the first to be located at an Italian airport.

The store’s facade, completely covered in digital screens, pays homage to Rome and Italy and welcomes visitors to the space. Drawing inspiration from 1950's Italian design, the choice of the store's materials echoes the monumental architecture of the Eternal City. For example, travertine, a clear reference to the famous sculptures and buildings across Rome, becomes the foundational element of the space, used both for the flooring and the numerous furnishings. Natural cowhide belts have been integrated with each one featuring exclusive finishes that also decorate Louis Vuitton luggage and trunks: the edging in red paint, the visible yellow stitching, and the iconic rivets in gilded brass. Reaching 13 meters in height, the ceiling suspends two Hughes H-1 Racer model planes as if dancing in mid-air, reconfirming the close link between Louis Vuitton and travel, the raison d'être of the Maison since its founding over 160 years ago.

Within this immersive space, visitors can discover Louis Vuitton's savoir-faire through the complete offer of leather goods, travel items, textiles, watches, jewellery, accessories, fragrances, ready-to-wear and women's and men's shoes. In addition, customers will have the possibility to customize their favorite Louis Vuitton leather goods products with a unique plane-shaped hot stamping, specifically designed for the Fiumicino store.

    • Louis Vuitton for UNICEF: Silver Lockit by Virgil Abloh - Louis Vuitton Heritage NEWS
As part of its Louis Vuitton for UNICEF partnership, Louis Vuitton launches on the 21st February the Silver Lockit bracelet designed by Louis Vuitton’s Men’s Artistic Director Virgil Abloh.

The new design is contemporary, yet instantly identifiable, adding an additional dimension to the existing collection of bracelets.
Inspired by Virgil Abloh’s Spring-Summer 2020 runway collection, the Silver Lockits are available in four colourways: black, orange, celadon green and a blue with hints of yellow.

The bracelet features the designer’s now signature bold chains, this time in silver, linked to a thicker, colourful cord, Louis Vuitton charm and engraved padlock.

In continuation of its #MAKEAPROMISE campaign, Louis Vuitton is committed to raising awareness and funds for UNICEF to support the most vulnerable children around the world.
By purchasing the Silver Lockit designed by Virgil Abloh, clients have the opportunity to support UNICEF's work in disaster -affected countries and reaching children in vulnerable situations.

The Silver Lockit is inspired by the tumbler lock invented by Georges Vuitton in 1890 to protect clients’ most precious belongings.

Since the launch of the Silver Lockit, the Louis Vuitton for UNICEF partnership has raised nearly ten million US$ for UNICEF to help children at risk.

UNICEF does not endorse any company, brand, product or service.

The Fondation Louis Vuitton opens a large-scale exhibition dedicated to Charlotte Perriand

Charlotte Perriand (1903-1999), a free woman, pioneer of modernity, a leading figure of the XX century design, who contributed to the definition of a new art de vivre

Charlotte Perriand was born on 24 October 1903 in Paris. She studied at the École de l'Union Centrale des Arts Décoratifs from 1920 to 1925. Two years later, she began working as an interior designer, based at her studio on Place Saint-Sulpice. To mark the twentieth anniversary of the passing of Charlotte Perriand (1903-1999), the Fondation pays tribute to her as an architect and visionary creator through an exhibition of her work exploring the links between art, architecture and design.

  • CELEBRATION OF INNOVATION

Louis Vuitton pursues its visionary odyssey: connected accessories and futuristic watches and luggage, bordering on the immaterial, bring the ancestral power of myths back to life.

Louis Vuitton was an inventor. A visionary who created innovative luggage adapted to the idea of contemporary travel. More than a century later, innovation remains a cardinal value, 2.0 craftsmanship that pulses at the heart of the Louis Vuitton matrix. The challenge is to stay perfectly in sync with the times, respecting the expertise of yesterday while being carried forward by the technology of tomorrow. Like a taut thread stretched between the past and the future, tirelessly weaving the story of the famous trunk-maker. What a pleasure to discover the latest creations with their futuristic facets, whose techno- logical feats are matched only by their exacting style. Science meets elegance... Today, one talks about “connected objects,” but at Louis Vuitton, a dream-maker and purveyor of elsewhere, it is simply a matter of the Maison’s stars taking flight towards another reality. Like these two bags endowed with an incredible flexible screen, the fanciful sensation of the 2020 Cruise show in New York, or the Keepall Lightning, whose optical fibers magically replace the legendary Monogram canvas. Offering an equally shimmery effect when the bag is turned off… or on! This digital odyssey continues with the indispensable Tambour watch, packed with innovations and design: one never tires of its watch faces, which give a multitude of new faces to this single and unique case. An ode to metamorphosis, which Louis Vuitton makes immaterial.

THE NEW TAMBOUR HORIZON OR THE MYTH OF CHRONOS...
In its connected and ultra-design version, perfect for frequent travelers, Maison Louis Vuitton’s flagship watch whisks us through time zones, setting its pace to that of Chronos, the god of time and destiny. While this ebony-winged wise man with the original hourglass may be the father of the passing hours, you are the child of a new world to endlessly explore. Open your eyes: time is everywhere.

THE CANVAS OF THE FUTURE OR THE MYTH OF ZEUS...
What if the canvas of tomorrow was a flexible and connected digital screen? What if we could dream up the first foldable smartphone? The first bag-tablet? Smart luggage? It would take all the power of Zeus, the supreme god capable of everything and anything, to elevate style to this new level! Announcing the birth of the total accessory. After creative lighting struck and the heavens were moved, these two quintessential bags took on this new role.

THE KEEPALL LIGHTNING OR THE MYTH OF PROMETHEUS...
Made entirely of optical fibers, Maison Louis Vuitton’s iconic bag glimmers in the night like an eternal dancing flame… It’s a Promethean gift! In any case, this technological blaze makes this luggage unique and vibrant, bearing a personalized message within the Vuitton community. Holder of the sacred fire, you can now stand up to the gods… of style!

  • DAN CARTER FOR UNICEF ON WORLD CHILDREN’S DAY

Louis Vuitton and Dan Carter join UNICEF in appealing for support to children affected by the Syrian crisis.

As part of Louis Vuitton’s efforts to raise awareness and funds for UNICEF, the New Zealand international rugby union player recently visited the Za’atari refugee camp in Jordan to help children facing one of the world’s most challenging humanitarian crisis.

“After visiting Jordan and experiencing the amazing work that UNICEF is doing here, it has made me realize that no child should have to live in poverty, without water or without food. Every child deserves a fair chance in life […] Every child should be given the opportunity to grow up and fulfill their potential. By supporting UNICEF, you are helping provide the most vulnerable children with education, a safe environment to live and play in and hope for the future,” says Dan Carter.

UNICEF is the leading humanitarian and development organization working globally for the rights of every child. The aim of the LOUIS VUITTON for UNICEF  partnership is to raise funds that help support children who are exposed to conflict, diseases, natural disasters and other situations that threaten their safety and well-being. Since January 2016, the partnership has raised more than $8m to help bring children life-saving humanitarian support, which includes children affected by the conflict in Syria.

About Time Exhibition at the Costume Institute - Louis Vuitton Art & Travel NEWS
Announcing the upcoming Metropolitan Museum of Art's exhibition “About Time: Fashion and Duration,” made possible by Louis Vuitton.

The exhibit will trace more than a century and a half of fashion, from 1870 to the present, along a disruptive timeline, as part of the Museum’s 150th-anniversary celebration. Employing philosopher Henri Bergson’s concept of la durée—time that flows, accumulates, and is indivisible—the exhibition will explore how clothes generate temporal associations that conflate the past, present, and future. The exhibition is made possible by Louis Vuitton, with additional support provided by Condé Nast.

In celebration of the opening, The Costume Institute Benefit, also known as The Met Gala, will take place on Monday, May 4, 2020.  Louis Vuitton’s Artistic Director Nicolas Ghesquière will co-chair the event along with Emma Stone, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Meryl Streep, and Anna Wintour.

  • TRIBUTE TO PATRICK-LOUIS VUITTON

It is with profound emotion and sadness that we have learned of the passing of Patrick-Louis Vuitton.

We wish to share with you a message from Michael Burke: “This morning, we all share the same grief. Patrick-Louis was an emblematic figure of the Vuitton family and of our House. My thoughts are with his friends and family, in particular his sons Pierre-Louis and Benoît-Louis, who work beside us, as well as his grandchildren. On behalf of all the teams, we send them our support."

Patrick-Louis followed the family tradition by joining the House in 1973 as carpenter craftsman. After a lifetime of work dedicated to excellence and creativity, he acquired a perfect expertise of our savoir-faire, invented and produced hundreds of extraordinary trunks that carry on our legacy of the Art of Travel. Patrick-Louis possessed an avant-garde and modern spirit, along with a “strong-tempered personality from the Jura” a reference he often enjoyed using to describe himself. He always knew how to nourish the House’s heritage and to give vision for the future. “Savoir-faire can only exist if it is transmitted…” was one of his favorite expressions. Patrick-Louis will be heavily missed, especially at Asnières, in the Special Orders workshop, where the emotions of the teams who worked side-by-side with him are deeply felt.

NEW FASHION EYE RELEASES: JAPAN AND ORIENT EXPRESS - Louis Vuitton Art & Travel NEWS
Louis Vuitton releases two new editions to the growing Fashion Eye book series: Japan by Adolphe de Meyer and Orient Express by Sarah Moon.

Now totaling nineteen volumes, each album in the series reveals a country, a region, a city, or a destination through the gaze of a fashion photographer.

In a selection of images from the early 1900s, Baron Adolphe de Meyer, the first great fashion photographer, born in Paris and truly ahead of his time, illuminates the spirit of a Japan opening to the West, thus offering a rare glimpse into its culture and society during this period. French artist Sarah Moon, acclaimed for her style and creativity, returns aboard the fabled Orient Express. With a knowing nod to the passage of time, she reinvents the beauty of a train that captures many of our imaginations, without ever neglecting the full breadth of its story.

The new Louis Vuitton flagship in Seoul boasts not only an exterior structure by Frank Gehry but also interiors by celebrated architect and designer Peter Marino.

Inside the new Maison Seoul, Peter Marino has used the vast volumes of the structure’s five floors to create contrasting spaces, from an entrance hall reaching twelve meters high to more intimate lounges. The inner architecture gives a sense of openness, with an airy “floating” staircase connecting all floors and all of Louis Vuitton’s universes and collections.

“The interior spaces were designed with a ‘Miesian’ rigor to more strongly emphasize the billowing energetic sculptural quality of Gehry’s exterior.  The interior stone flows in from the exterior. The dynamism of the rectangular volumes cleanly contrasts with the baroque glass shields of the building”, says Peter Marino.

  • MAISON SEOUL BY FRANK GEHRY

Maison Seoul by Frank Gehry - Louis Vuitton Heritage NEWS
Perched atop the prestigious Cheongdam-dong in the Gangnam district, Louis Vuitton’s new Maison in Seoul marks Frank Gehry’s first creation in South Korea.

Based on the existing site of the original Louis Vuitton store, this new Maison is a celebration of the strong connection between Louis Vuitton and Korean culture. In imagining his design, Frank Gehry chose to reference not only the shape of the existing Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris, but was also inspired by elements of historical Korean architecture such as the Hwaseong Fortress, dating back to the 18th century, as well as the swooping movements and white costumes of the Dongnae Hakchum (crane dance).

The result is a poetic structure created primarily using Gehry’s trademark curved glass, each panel specially molded and attached to a bespoke metal lattice. The glass covers the entire front of the structure, beginning with a high zig-zagging vestibule and window, leading up to a series of enclosed terraces and culminating in waves of louvered glass panels, to give an impression of flight, or of the roof of the building itself evaporating into the clouds above. The walls and base of the building are constructed from white stone to enhance this sense of weightlessness.

“What struck me when I first visited Seoul nearly 25 years ago, was the relationship between the architecture and the natural landscape. I still remember clearly the powerful impressions I had stepping up from the garden of Jongmyo Shrine” explains Frank Gehry, adding “I am delighted to have designed Louis Vuitton Maison Seoul, reflecting the traditional values of the Korean culture.”

Icinori’s boldly colored illustrations for Louis Vuitton’s Travel Book Seoul transform the South Korean capital from impenetrable city to something more familiar and multifaceted.

“We are cartoonists, illustrators and authors. Our work is similar to screen printing: we tend to draw the different colours one by one. Our names are Icinori, Mayumi and Raphaël.”

Mayumi Otero and Raphaël Urwiller display an outstanding gift for creating sophisticated graphic designs, an entire universe of uninhibited illustrations and references to art, whether modern, classical, popular or contemporary. Over the years, they have developed a style marked primarily by boldness: early on, the two artists laid claim to the legacy of Japanese graphic arts and proclaimed their attachment to the imagery and imaginative world of Japan. The two are happy to be seen as the “modern heirs to the print masters”, although they also cite a number of illustrious painters and engravers – Goya, Dürer, Hockney, and Kuniyoshi – as well as the Florentine Renaissance, Chinese outsider art, Japanese pop-art posters, and a whole host of ephemera. Icinori delves into childhood and teenage years to give form to the present and travel through time, as illustrated in this Travel Book dedicated to Seoul, a timeless homage to the city and its inhabitants.

From October 31, 2019 to January 19, 2020, the Fondation Louis Vuitton presents eight works from the Collection for the inauguration of this new venue.

On the occasion of its opening, the Espace Louis Vuitton Seoul is proud to announce the presentation of an exhibition dedicated to major artist Alberto Giacometti. This presentation has been produced in the framework of the Fondation Louis Vuitton's "Hors-les-murs" programme, showcasing holdings of the Collection at the Espaces Louis Vuitton in Tokyo, Munich, Beijing and now Seoul, thus carrying out the Fondation's intent to mount international projects and make them accessible to a broader public.

Giacometti's work combined daily experience of the model with timeless forms of ancient references. As the bodies he sculpted became thinner, and with a sense of lingering failure over his inability to reproduce his models as he perceived them, he achieved extreme simplification of the forms, reducing them to the essential lines of their precarious existence. His oeuvre, ranging from his early surreal objects to his late delicate silhouettes, constitutes a undeniable milestone in the Art History.

For its very first exhibition, the Espace Louis Vuitton Seoul presents eight emblematic sculptures by Giacometti, that belong to the Collection : Tête sur tige [Head on a rod] (1947), Trois hommes qui marchent [Three men walking] (1948), Homme qui chavire [Man who capsizes] (1950), Femme de Venise III [Woman of Venice III] (1956), Grande Femme II [Tall Woman II] (1960) and Têtes d’homme [Heads of a man] (Lotar I), (Lotar II) and (Lotar III) (1964-65). These works, considered as key masterpieces of Giacometti’s oeuvre, pay tribute to the virtuosity of the iconic Swiss artist.

Conceived in the international spirit of Louis Vuitton yet incorporating local elements, the interiors of the Phuket store are unique to Thailand. Tracing its journey from the West to the East, a Sino-Portuguese style has infused the space through wall sculptures and installations inspired by the design elements of local handicrafts.

The interior expresses the Maison's codes with subtle off-white cut-out panels in a pattern that recalls the iconic Monogram's motif, floating like lace in a light-filled expanse.  At a special space within the store, an abundance of tropical plants invite clients to discover Louis Vuitton's resort offer in a setting centered around the legacy of Phuket’s beautiful beaches and island life.

To mark the twentieth anniversary of the passing of Charlotte Perriand (1903-1999), the Fondation pays tribute to her as an architect and visionary creator through an exhibition of her work exploring the links between art, architecture and design.

The exhibition retraces the architectural work of Charlotte Perriand, whose creations presage current conversations about the roles of women and nature in our society. Visitors will have a unique opportunity to engage directly with a world of modernity thanks to meticulously researched, faithful reconstitutions that include works of art chosen by Charlotte Perriand, thus embodying her vision of a “synthesis of the arts”. Through this exhibition, the work of Charlotte Perriand invites us to rethink the role of art in our society. More than simply an object of pleasure, art is the spearhead of profound transformations in the society of tomorrow.

  • REOPENING OF LA GALERIE ASNIÈRES

Every weekend from September 21st to October 27th, la Galerie will reopen its doors to the public presenting an exhibition: Time Capsule.

The Asnières atelier is a pivotal location. Barely five years after founding Louis Vuitton, Louis himself began to outgrow his Parisian headquarters. In 1859, he relocated the new workshop to Asnières, a village a few kilometers northwest of Paris.

This new atelier was built in the ethereal Eiffel style, combining glass and steel. The exceptional savoir-faire of the Asnières artisans is such that, even today, key pieces are created here: rigid trunks, designs in rare or exotic leathers, special orders.

From within its “Galérie” in Asnières, Louis Vuitton presents Time Capsule, a journey through the history of the House that revisits its landmark innovations in technology and design. Travelling from the House’s beginnings in 1854 to the present day, the story is told using rare and celebrated objects selected from the Louis Vuitton archive.

The exhibition follows a visual timeline of landmark moments in the Louis Vuitton story, demonstrating the ways in which Louis Vuitton has anticipated the needs and desires of a changing world over 160 years generated by technological progress, with imaginative and ingenious new creations.

In Time Capsule, heirloom designs live alongside some of the House’s most contemporary pieces, highlighting the ongoing commitment to constant innovation.

Visit Asnières to discover the intimate aspects of Louis Vuitton’s history, its ties with the ateliers, and admire in detail the presence of the Louis Vuitton universe in every creation.

A selection of  exceptional trunks and exotic bags on display at the Savoir Faire Event in Milan include pieces that are being showcased for the first time worldwide.

The historic Asnières workshop in France has been the heart of Louis Vuitton's trunk making since 1859, where five hundred objects are handcrafted each year. In Milan, alongside iconic designs such as the wardrobe trunk, a selection of novelty hard-sided pieces such as a DJ trunk, a beauty bar trunk, and a picnic trunk are being showcased as examples of the bespoke special-order creations crafted for a wide variety of Louis Vuitton clients. For the Milan Event, a painter will be on hand to demonstrate the art of trunk painting and to highlight the personalization options currently available to clients.

In addition to the special trunks, Louis Vuitton is revealing a selection of exceptional crocodile leather bags where artisans have developed cutting-edge techniques or employed age-old traditions to take luxury to new heights of refinement.  Working with crocodile allows the Maison's legendary savoir-faire to create pieces that are not only sophisticated, but utterly contemporary. Also on display are various crocodile versions of iconic Louis Vuitton bags such as Capucines, Cannes, Dauphine Mini, Twist Mini and City Steamer Mini, as well as a selection of men's leather goods.

The exhibition dedicated to French artist Christian Boltanski runs at Espace Louis Vuitton Tokyo through November 17

Christian Boltanski is a leading figure in contemporary art, considered as France’s most influential living artist. Since 1967, he has developed an artistic practice that embraces writing, film, sculpture and photography, with a focus on remembrance and time, infused with biographical milestones and references. Memory and its corollary, an obsession with avoiding forgetfulness and oblivion, are central to his vision, as is the ability to invent legends and myths. Animitas is one of his most ambitious projects: creating outdoor installations in secluded places, using bells to echo the configuration of stars on the night of his birth: September 6, 1944.

As part of its ongoing “Hors-les-murs” programme, the Fondation Louis Vuitton is honoured to show the two last chapters of this series:  Animitas (La forêt des murmures, 2016) shot in Teshima in Japan, and Animitas (Mères mortes, 2017) filmed by the Dead Sea in Israel. These two pieces, which form part of the Collection, echo, according to the artist himself, “the music of the stars and the voices of the floating souls”.

The Espace Louis Vuitton Tokyo, located at the 7th floor of the Louis Vuitton Omotesando store, is a glass box inviting to penetrate a paralel world. Its visually stimulating architecture and unique exhibition place encourages the presentation of major contemporary artworks.

  • GO FOR GOOD AT GALERIES LAFAYETTE

Go For Good at Galeries Lafayette - Louis Vuitton Heritage NEWS
Louis Vuitton participates in the French department store’s sustainability project “Go for Good.”

Throughout Louis Vuitton’s history, the Maison has strived to create objects that stand the test of time and can be passed down from generation to generation. Louis Vuitton’s participation in Galeries Lafayette's "Go For Good" project reaffirms a long-standing commitment to sustainability. In order to continue to prioritize the longevity of its creations, the Maison is invested in preserving the natural raw materials on which the beauty and quality of its products depend.

Through local, social, and environmental actions, Louis Vuitton carries out this conviction across all its activities and product categories. Louis Vuitton’s leather goods workshops have been certified “Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivante” from the French government, a unique distinction for companies with artisanal savoir-faire that are committed to maintaining production in France. Since its founding in 1854, Louis Vuitton has chosen to use leathers tanned with natural plant extracts for its signature pieces with the aim of minimizing the environmental impacts of each step of production. The Parfums Louis Vuitton Collection, released in 2016, was designed to be endlessly refillable to eliminate the need for additional packaging. The Be Mindful capsule of accessories and textiles gives silk a second life by upcycling them into unique Louis Vuitton creations, while the Maison’s UNICEF partnership donates a portion of sales of the Silver Lockit bracelets to supporting vulnerable children worldwide. These are just some of the initiatives the Maison has taken to further its social and environmental sustainability, earning it a place in the Galeries Lafayette “Go For Good” project.

Louis Vuitton presents a limited-edition rugby ball designed with Rugby legend Dan Carter.

Louis Vuitton is pleased to announce the launch of its first-ever rugby ball, the result of a close collaboration between the House’s artisans and the legendary former fly-half. The rugby ball will be released exclusively in Japan – where Dan Carter now plays rugby – in a limited edition of 112, the same number of appearances he made for New Zealand between 2003 and 2015.

The rugby ball is made in the contemporary Monogram Eclipse canvas, chosen by Carter both for its sophistication and its black and silver colourway, reminiscent of the New-Zealand rugby team’s world-renowned uniforms. Created 120 years after the House’s classic Monogram pattern, the Monogram Eclipse canvas contrasts with the ball’s traditional lacing – once a feature of all rugby balls – which is integrated into an oval patch, along with Dan Carter’s signature, both made in Louis Vuitton’s tanned cowhide leather. Each ball is accompanied by its own carrying harness and tee, also in black cowhide leather and with Monogram Eclipse details.

The Louis Vuitton and Dan Carter rugby ball will be available in selected Louis Vuitton stores in Japan from September 20, 2019.

  • TIME CAPSULE IN CHENGDU OPENING EVENT

To celebrate the Time Capsule exhibit in Chengdu, Louis Vuitton hosted an opening event for guests including Shi Zhan, Fu Jing, Bai Jing Ting, Qi Wei and Lee Seung Hyun among others.

From the beginning, Louis Vuitton has been defined by a pioneering spirit, a spirit that the city of Chengdu also embodies. Since 1997, when the “Louis Vuitton Exhibition 1997-1998” opened there, Chengdu has been one of the country’s most important cities.  Sino-Ocean Taikoo Li, a cherished cultural and influential destination, is the ideal place for bringing together Louis Vuitton’s values of travel and innovation.

To mark Time Capsule Exhibition’s arrival in Chengdu, Louis Vuitton has chosen to highlight several pieces with references to the connection between Louis Vuitton and China. The trunk for artist Xu Bing was crafted to house his calligraphy tools and is carefully adorned in a version of the celebrated Monogram canvas. Another special tea trunk was imagined by Wang Jun Qing of the Wang De Chuan Tea House, to celebrate the art of tea tasting, while the Mahjong box was created by Louis Vuitton for the popular Chinese game. The exhibit is also an opportunity to share little-known stories about renowned Chinese, for example the 1930’s Socialite Madame Koo proclaims her fondness for the brand in her personal diaries where she lauds her many trunks between tales of politics and parties. Also on display are the custom order documents of Leslie Cheung, Hollywood actress Anna May Wong, as well as a briefcase belonging to internationally-known architect Ieoh Ming Pei, among others.

Louis Vuitton releases a new edition in its Fashion Eye book series devoted to Saint Tropez, through the lens of Osma Harvilahti.

Finnish photographer Osma Harvilahti was chosen to share his understated and intimate view of Saint Tropez, the town on the French Riviera more often associated with the glamour of international jet set travelers. Harvilahti’s photographs have always been fundamentally documentary in nature, culled with spontaneity and nuance from the world around him. Making personal projects about the places he visits and the people he encounters along the way, he plucks out the most intimate and vivid details of his surroundings to fix within the frame.

What began as an early interest in street photography, and a penchant for the pure lines and formal order of the Bauhaus movement, slowly evolved into a sensitivity towards curating and capturing the compositions of everyday phenomena. Harvilahti has honed a brightly colored, clean and graphic aesthetic that interrogates pattern, shadow, form, and surface with aching honesty.

Louis Vuitton releases a new edition in its Fashion Eye book series devoted to the French Riviera, through the lens of Slim Aarons.

Saint Tropez, Cannes, Antibes, Saint Jean Cap Ferrat, Monaco… the French Riviera is one of the most photogenic destinations that has long been favored by celebrities, socialites, and jet setters. Slim Aarons, the famed American photographer, saw his job as "photographing attractive people doing attractive things in attractive places," making him a natural choice to capture the spirit of the French Riviera for Louis Vuitton’s Fashion Eye series.

Slim Aarons began his career as a war photographer for US Army during World War II before contributing to the era’s most famous picture magazines such as Life, Holiday, Flair, Harper’s Bazaar, and Vogue. Known for his documentation of society’s elite at play and at parties, Aaron created a distinctive look that strongly influenced many fashion designers from the 1990s on. This new Louis Vuitton Fashion Eye brings together a selection of Aaron’s photographs taken in the French Riviera from the 1950s-1980s.

Celebrating a night of imaginative time travel through a visual journey, Louis Vuitton welcomed guests into Time Capsule Exhibition in Chengdu on June 7th.

The Louis Vuitton Time Capsule exhibiton was celebrated with Shi Zhan, Fu Jing, Bai Jing Ting, Qi Wei and Lee Seung Hyun for the opening.

From the beginning, Louis Vuitton has been defined by a pioneering spirit. Just like Louis Vuitton, the city of Chengdu embodies the same values of tradition and history all while looking forward to the future. Since the opening of “Louis Vuitton Exhibition 1997-1998” in Chengdu in 1997, Chengdu has been one of the most important cities in China market.  Sino-Ocean Taikoo Li, one of the most cherished cultural and influential destinations in Chengdu is the ideal place for bringing together Louis Vuitton’s values of travel and innovation.

To mark Time Capsule Exhibition’s arrival in Chengdu, Louis Vuitton has chosen to highlight several pieces with references to the connection between Louis Vuitton and China. Conceived for artist Xu Bing, the calligraphy trunk contains his tools, carefully adorned in a version of the celebrated Monogram canvas. A special tea trunk was also imagined by Wang Jun Qing of the Wang De Chuan Tea House, to celebrate the tasting of tea. The Mahjong box was created by Louis Vuitton for the popular Chinese game that requires complex skills and fun.

Untold stories about renowned Chinese clients will be featured in the exhibition as well: 1930’s Socialite Madame Koo proclaims her fondness for the brand in her personal diaries where she lauds her many trunks between tales of politics and parties. We also find the personal order files of Leslie Cheung, Hollywood actress Anna May Wong, as well as a briefcase belonging to internationally-known architect Ieoh Ming Pei, among others.

Louis Vuitton supports UNICEF who is on the ground working to meet the immediate needs of affected children and their families in the wake of the Cyclone Idai and the Cyclone Kenneth.

In March and April, Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe were hit by two cyclones in succession, devastating everything in their path.
3 million people, more than half of whom are children, today need humanitarian assistance.

Since 2016, thanks to your support, Louis Vuitton has raised more than 7 million euros for UNICEF to help children in emergencies.
Some of this amount, more than € 300,000, will help vulnerable children and their families in East African countries affected by these natural disasters.

Like them, 1.6 million children today need urgent and vital help.
You can help them and #MAKEAPROMISE by making a direct donation to UNICEF: https://help.unicef.org/help-children-affected-cyclone-idai-lv

Louis Vuitton adds a new edition to its Travel Book series devoted to Seoul by Icinori.

Stopping over in Seoul with design duo Icinori. The Louis Vuitton Travel Book series invites renowned artists and promising young talents to tell stories of places they have visited, depicting each place’s varied architecture and special light, and recording the passing days and the lives of its people. For the new edition on Seoul, Mayumi Otero and Raphaël Urwiller bring their breath-taking attention to detail to the bustling South Korean capital.

The Japanese-sounding name  "doesn’t mean anything in particular", in the words of the couple behind it. Icinori is a studio of design, visual art, screen printing, and publishing. The French-Spanish-Japanese Mayumi Otero and the French Raphaël Urwiller met in school at the Ecole Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs of Strasbourg where they founded Icinori in 2007 while still students. Since then, as work and life partners, they have been traveling, exploring, observing, illustrating, and drawing together, displaying the sort of meticulousness that typifies only the most passionate of artists.

Louis Vuitton adds a new edition to its Travel Book series devoted to Los Angeles by Javier Mariscal.

Next stop Los Angeles, through the eyes of Javier Mariscal. The Louis Vuitton Travel Book series invites renowned artists and promising young talents to tell stories of places they have visited, depicting each place’s varied architecture and special light, and recording the passing days and the lives of its people. For the new edition on Los Angeles, the Spanish artist Javier Mariscal brings his edgy and unbridled style to the sprawling Californian city.

A graphic designer, illustrator, filmmaker, painter, sculptor and ceramist, Javier Mariscal loves to challenge everything he encounters: his motto is "hay que romper con todo" (you have to break with everything). As a dyslexic child, he was obsessed with drawing from a very early age and fascinated by letters and typography, a passion that would have a substantial influence on his work.

The Espace Louis Vuitton Venezia opens the exhibit 'Elsewhen' by Philippe Parreno during the 58th edition of La Biennale di Venezia.

The Fondation Louis Vuitton is pleased to announce the opening of its new exhibition, Elsewhen, displaying a whole new installation by French artist Philippe Parreno at the Espace Louis Vuitton Venezia. As part of the Collateral Events of the 58th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, this presentation has been produced in the framework of the Fondation Louis Vuitton “Hors-les-murs” program. This program, inaugurated in 2014, showcases previously unseen holdings of the Fondation's collection in the multiple Espaces Louis Vuitton around the world (Tokyo, Munich, Beijing and Venice), thus realizing the Fondation’s commitment to mount international projects and make them accessible to a broader public.

For Parreno's installation, the walls of the Espace Louis Vuitton Venezia are covered with a phosphorescent yellow wallpaper patterned with black irises. A grand luminous marquee, a recreation and reinvention of those that once stood on top of cinema entrances, floats above a large vertical mechanical mirrored shutter. An experimental hybrid digital program controls these interdependent elements, causing light to appear or disappear at irregular intervals by rotating the louvers and forcing pulses of air or synthetically generated sounds, all echoing microorganisms’ reactions integrated within the program. As the blinds move, the mirror reflects silhouettes of viewers and the structure of the marquee. When the light turns out, all shapes become ghostlike, accentuated by the phosphorescent walls mutating to dark green and black. Far from their initial utilitarian nature, the elements of the installation take on a playfully equivocal identity, bringing the pulse of life into the space to build a distinctive interaction between the viewer and the context. In 'Elsewhen', Parreno creates an experience where memories of the past come together in a disruptive temporality. The familiar markers of perception are annihilated in favor of a stimulating process of inventing new ways of understanding, all while defying rational categories and the established order.

Amar Kanwar is an artist and filmmaker who lives and works in New Delhi. His oeuvre, deeply marked by the history of his country, shows multiple influences ranging from 15th and 16th-century Indian poetry to the cinema of Russian director Andrei Tarkovski. Kanwar's works encourage reflection and examine nationalism, politics, violence, and social performance through video and sound installations. Kanwar invites the viewer on a potent personal experience and aspires to incite new generations of artists to rethink the social consequences of their work.

Like many of his films, Henningsvaer (2006) is a complex contemporary narrative that connects intimate personal spheres of existence to larger social-political processes – in this case a cinematic interpretation of separation and exile. Mixing historical footage, personal testimony and lyrical cinematography, Kanwar creates a multi-layered film installation connecting intimate personal histories with the wider politics of power and justice. A Love Story (2010), a much shorter film, is a short poetic documentary set on the fringe of an expanding Indian city, addressing conditions of conflict through the combination of poetic sensibility and political consciousness.

  • OBJETS NOMADES AT FUORISALONE 2019 IN MILAN

Louis Vuitton's Objets Nomades collection is exclusively presented at Palazzo Serbelloni in Milan during Fuorisalone 2019.

Since its launch in 2012, the Louis Vuitton Objets Nomades has grown into a collection forty-five limited-edition travel-inspired objects imagined by some of the world's most renowned designers: Barber&Osgerby, Campana Brothers, André Fu, Damien Langlois-Meurinne, Nendo, Gwenaël Nicolas, Raw Edges, Patricia Urquiola, Marcel Wanders, India Mahdavi, Tokujin Yoshioka, and, most recently, Atelier Biagetti and Zanellato/Bortotto. Louis Vuitton has unveiled the latest additions to the collection at the Palazzo Serbelloni in Milan during Fuorisalone 2019.

Among the new pieces is Anemona by Milan-based Atelier Biagetti, which is a remarkable, glass-topped dining table with undulating base covered in soft beige leather. The italian duo Zanellato/Bortotto makes its debut with Mandala, a tripartite screen of intricately woven leather inspired by nomadic craftmanship. A new selection of inventive, poetic work from established Objets Nomades designers includes the Campana Brothers' Bulbo, a cosy seat that transports the sitter in a cocoon-like tropical flower of leather and soft fabric. The duo Raw Edges’ Dolls are a set of joyously playful, endlessly customizable chairs that, like traditional Louis Vuitton trunks, can be hand-painted with unique designs. Marcel Wanders enriches the collection with four new objects: the beguiling pair of Diamond Sofa and Armchair with their bases of intertwined ash and rich leather upholstery; Venezia, a lamp inspired by traditional Venetian lanterns; and Diamond Vase, made of red, handblown Murano glass. India Mahdavi brings her lacquered Talisman tray, with its “benevolent eye” design, while Tokujin Yoshioka presents the Monogram pattern-inspired Blossom Vase, made of heavy, handcrafted Murano glass.

  • REMEMBERING KARL LAGERFELD

    • REMEMBERING KARL LAGERFELD - Louis Vuitton Heritage NEWS
    • REMEMBERING KARL LAGERFELD - Louis Vuitton Heritage NEWS
Louis Vuitton honors Karl Lagerfeld, a long-standing friend of the House.

Louis Vuitton pays tribute to Karl Lagerfeld, who was much more than a singular and prolific fashion icon, but also a long-standing friend of the House.

Lagerfeld’s iconoclastic approach to redefining fashion - particularly predicting and understanding the importance of ready-to-wear and knowing how to revitalize and reinvent brands - could be seen as the blueprint by which many fashion houses operate today.  As both a preeminent designer, fashion trouble-shooter and contemporary Renaissance man, Lagerfeld’s contributions to the fashion and luxury world are innumerable.

Lagerfeld’s close relationship with Louis Vuitton brought about several collaborations, including a custom one-of-a-kind trunk to hold his collection of 20 iPods and sound equipment.

For Louis Vuitton’s 2014 project “THE ICON AND THE ICONOCLAST: Celebrating Monogram”, Lagerfeld was one of six creatives chosen to show the distinctly personal side of the Monogram; re-presenting something we think we all know in an extraordinary, individual, and idiosyncratic way. Given carte blanche to dictate and make whatever he saw fit in the iconic canvas, Lagerfeld designed a collection of boxing gear: a large trunk for variously sized punching bags, boxing gloves, carrying case, and even an instructive mat. Of his contribution, he said “It is fun! In fact, I had several ideas and Louis Vuitton wanted to do them all – why not? … It was really very childish, simple thinking!”

On news of Lagerfeld’s passing, Louis Vuitton CEO Michael Burke shared: “Karl adopted me when I was in need of a friend in Rome! We became partners in crime and wrote history on the Great Wall of China. Aim high, shoot for the stars. You will always be our guiding light.”

Louis Vuitton has opened a new store in the One Monte-Carlo disctrict on 21 February 2019, near the iconic Hôtel de Paris.

The various parts of the store are connected with a large central staircase crafted from metal and wood that recalls the deck of a boat, a subtle reminder of the Principality’s ties with the sea.

Art and Design have always been synonymous with the history of Louis Vuitton, especially through the many collaborations with various artists. In line with this tradition, Louis Vuitton commissioned an exclusive work by Thai artist Somsak Hanumas representing the flag of Monaco, which is displayed in the private mezzanine apartment. Along with the rest of the store, this intimate space is furnished in vintage Art Deco style.

Some exceptional pieces are available to celebrate the store opening such as the Petite Boite Chapeau in beige Epi leather and the Cannes bag in Epi Bleuet leather, as well as other outstanding pieces in exotic leather such as the Capucines Mini in Baïkal Blue and the Petite Malle in Céladon Green.

As a nod to the Principality and the Maison’s signature idea of travel, Louis Vuitton chose the store’s mezzanine level to exhibit a historic trunk that belonged to Princess Charlotte of Monaco, the mother of Prince Rainier III. Just before her wedding in May 1920, Princess Charlotte of Monaco bought luggage items to make up a set of trunks that she planned to use on future journeys. The Princess selected a piece covered with the famous Monogram canvas to carefully store her toiletries and accessories from her elegant wardrobe. She requested that the luggage be decorated with red and white bands and diamond shapes, in reference to her family’s collection of weaponry.

  • THE COURTAULD COLLECTION AT FONDATION LOUIS VUITTON

THE COURTAULD COLLECTION AT FONDATION LOUIS VUITTON - Louis Vuitton Art & Travel NEWS
From February 20th to June 17th 2019, the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris presents the collection of Samuel Courtauld, the English industrialist and patron of the arts.

“The Courtauld Collection: A Vision for Impressionism” brings together some 110 works, including 60 paintings and graphic pieces, which are mainly conserved in the Courtauld Gallery or in different international public and private collections. It will enable the French public to discover some of the greatest French paintings from the end of the 19th century and from the very beginning of the 20th century in Paris, sixty years after their first presentation in 1955 at the Musée de l’Orangerie. These works include Un Bar aux Folies Bergère (1882) by Manet, La Jeune Femme se poudrant by Seurat (1889-90), Les Joueurs de cartes by Cézanne (1892-96), Autoportrait à l’oreille bandée by Van Gogh (1889), Nevermore by Gauguin (1897), as well as a set of ten watercolours by  J.M.W. Turner which belonged to Samuel Courtauld’s brother, Sir Stephen Courtauld.

The exhibition of the Courtauld Collection embodies the Fondation’s aim to showcase the role of emblematic collectors from the history of art, following on from previous exhibitions such as  “Keys to a passion” (2014-2015), "Being Modern : Moma in Paris" (2017-2018), "Icons of Modern Art. The Shchukin Collection" (2016-2017) which brought together great works of Modernism, collected by prestigious institutions and visionary collectors.
