Espace Louis Vuitton Seoul: Andy Warhol

Espace Louis Vuitton Seoul: Andy Warhol

From October 1st, 2021 through February 6th, 2022, the Espace Louis Vuitton Seoul presents a new exhibition of works by Andy Warhol called “Looking for Andy”.

Andy Warhol, the Pygmalion of the contemporary world, was a master of staging. Creating characters for himself throughout his career, he touched the worlds of cinema, television and gay culture, propelling the figure of the artist to the rank of social icon. This selection of works from the Fondation Louis Vuitton Collection, presented here in the framework of the “Hors-les-murs Programme”, ranges from his early photos to his very latest pieces and illustrates his hugely varied “self-reflection”, portraying the modern-day Narcissus. In his own words, “if you want to know about Andy Warhol, just look at the surface of my paintings and films and me, and there I am. There’s nothing behind it.”

Inaugurated in 2019, the Espace Louis Vuitton Seoul is nestled on the fourth floor of the Maison Louis Vuitton Seoul, the façade of which was designed by celebrated Canadian-American architect Frank Gehry. A glass structure inspired by the traditional Korean dance Dongnae Hakchum forms the shelter of a contemporary art space, reflecting the sail-like architecture of the Fondation Louis Vuitton building in Paris.
