British artist Ed Atkins defines himself as a visual artist, a writer, a poet, a screenwriter and a musician. The use of digital images and their impact on our daily experience are at the core of his video installations, featuring 3D characters that are “both ridiculously alive and completely dead.” Being the main character of his own videos, he gives performance a central role. In the framework of the Hors-les-murs programme of the Fondation Louis Vuitton, Atkins specifically revisits the display of two of his works from the Collection: Us Dead Talk Love (2012), a meditation on love and death in the form of an autobiographical confession between two severed heads, to the sound of the musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street; and Even Pricks (2013) which shares a series of reflections on depression in an immersive, labyrinthine, yet jubilatory experience.
