From its shores to its villages, Martin Parr's United Kingdom paints a bittersweet picture of the island nation, vividly expressing the famous photographer's complex feelings about his country. Around a hundred pictures, some never before published, taken between 1998 and the present day, chronicle the ordinary life of the working class and, sometimes, the aristocracy. Picnics, weddings, a dip in the sea - the recreational activities and manias of the people of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are brought to light, with flash and filter-free, while an exclusive workbook explores a face-off between the Glastonbury Festival and the Coronation of King Charles III.

Martin Parr was born near London in 1952, and learned photography from his grandfather before studying the subject at Manchester Polytechnic from 1970 to 1973. A member of the Magnum Photographic Cooperative, which he chaired from 2013 to 2017, his photographs consistently reveal reality as it is: imperfect. Martin Parr is the author of around a hundred books and the editor of some thirty others. His vast collection of heterogeneous objects, an integral part of his oeuvre, was displayed in 2009 at France’s Jeu de Paume art centre for the Planète Parr exhibition. His photographs can be found in many prestigious collections, including those of the Tate, the Centre Pompidou and MoMA in New York.
