La Valise

The Suitcase recounts the story, at once poetic, amusing, and poignant, of an object shaped by time through travel and the vagaries of life on the move. For more than 13 years, Bruno Aveillan has been photographing his Louis Vuitton Alzer suitcase everywhere he goes. One of the House’s emblematic models, the Alzer appears in these pages in more than 100 destinations, at times asserting its elegant presence at the center of the image, at times subtly suggested. “The suitcase invites a thousand and one projections,” the photographer says. “The elegance of a bygone era, the melancholy of train stations, the sensuality of hotels, the memory of roads, the silence of a bedroom before sleep…” Blending heritage and exploration, this exceptional book retraces a dialogue between a Louis Vuitton icon and an artist’s singular vision.
